The 'I Am An Artist' Challenge

Welcome to the 'I am an a

First step accomplished! 💪

Hello artist friend {yep, artist 😉}

I'm beyond delighted you've decided to join me for the I Am An Artist Challenge!

And honestly, it's pretty brave even getting this far, if you're someone who up till now has struggled to call yourself an artist out loud to other human beings!

{And FYI, you wouldn't even believe how many artists feel the same as you.}

So all the high fives to you 🙌 and I can't wait to share the prompts with you over the coming days.

If you take a few minutes each day to do the suggested {simple!} tasks, I know you'll start to experience a shift. We'll get you putting 'artist' in your Instagram bio - or equivalent - in no time. {You think I'm kidding.😉}

This email is long because it's an explaining-how-it-works email. The prompt emails will be much shorter!

How this works

From Monday October 3rd, I'll be sending you daily emails with prompts for one week. {If you sign up late, you'll receive emails from when you sign up, and will be able to find all the others here.}

I'm making them as full on encouraging as I possibly can, so expect to see my face in your inbox every day as there will be videos! {This is me pushing my own comfort zone boundaries - just in case you thought it all comes easily to me!}

They'll also be in writing in case you don't feel the need to see my face talking at you every day.

Each prompt has been carefully chosen to be simple - although not necessarily easy. This is a challenge after all!

You don't have to do it over the seven days if that feels a bit intense. Take your time. The prompts have the potential to go deep, so let them percolate for as many days, weeks, or months as you need.

The tasks will usually involve some thinking and writing. If you're not a person who journals or thinks about your thoughts a great deal, I’m going to ask you to willingly suspend your disbelief and just give them a try.

If you can do any writing with pen and paper, that’s ideal, because that gives you access to your subconscious in a way that typing doesn’t. Maybe choose a notebook or sketchbook just for this, so you can write as much as you want. {Not a super special one! Let's not bring perfectionism to the party as well.😆}

We can’t change what we can’t see, so we’ll be taking a look inside our brains and getting a clearer sense of what’s going on in there under the usual habitual 'yes but' thoughts.

This isn’t about forcing you into places you don’t want to go, so don't push yourself to overachieve here.

It’s just about clearing the scum off the top of the water to see what’s true underneath, and shifting our attention to that so it becomes more and more our lived experience. Living in scum makes everything harder! And it’s kind of gross.

Annoyingly, the obvious hashtag is already taken, so if you want to share your progress on Instagram {not compulsory}, we’re using #callyourselfanartistchallenge instead!

If you feel brave, you can share your thoughts, experiences, shifts, and responses to the daily prompts using that hashtag on Instagram, so we can find you and cheer you on!

We all need champions on the artist path, and as artists we're well placed to be champions for each other. 😊💪

{And you don't have to make any art unless you want to - you can share any images you like.}
