Welcome aboard!

Sold!

#21daysinmyartworld

Hello artist friend

It's time to share with us a painting you've sold. {This one's quite long, so if you're not up for this feel free to skip it!}

Maybe it's the first one you ever sold; maybe you've been selling your work for years and have heaps to choose from.

Maybe it's your most recent sale.

Haven't sold a painting yet? Then your challenge - if you choose to accept it 😉  - is to offer one for sale! You can totally blame me for 'making' you.😁

It's very easy {and very difficult!}. Here's a simple approach lots of artists take:

Share a good crisp photo of it taken in daylight, as close to the real colours as you can. You could crop it close so we can only see the painting, or style it in a little vignette, or have it hanging on the wall, or as a flat lay.

Then in the caption on your post, share the title, medium, size, price {this is optional}, and how to buy it.

Consider sharing a little story with it too, for connection. Ideally you'd put this first, to draw us in, and give us the technical/logistical details at the end.

Don't forget a call to action! {CTA} Something simple like - ‘DM me to purchase’, or ‘Click the link in my bio to see more details and make it yours.’

Think about what's going to work best for you, with your personality and language style.

Below is an example from my artist account on Instagram. {Argh, just seen a typo in it! lol.}

Take some time to think through the logistics before you post too. They'll vary depending on whether you have a website and/or shop online, or will be selling directly through Instagram DMs with a Paypal account, for example.

Will you include the postage and packaging cost in the price?

Are you happy to post internationally? Paypal is a very easy and safe way to make the transaction, and the buyer doesn't need a Paypal account to use it. You can simply send them a request or invoice using their email.

Make it as easy as possible for someone to purchase it; people don't want to jump through hoops and you don't want them to have time or reasons to talk themselves out of it! 😉

And no apologetic wording ok! Just what it is, what it costs, and of course you can share a bit about the idea and process behind it if you like.

Then take a deep breath, press publish, share the post to your stories for extra eyes on it, and go far away for a while! I recommend in the direction of a brownie or some other celebratory baked good.🍰

It's super scary that first time, but you can do it and it does get easier, I promise!

Just remember if it doesn't sell, {and it may well not}, it's ok.

It's an experiment, not a definitive reflection of us as artists, and you never know who's seeing the work and saving it for future reference.

And of course, if you have no interest in selling your work or don't feel ready, that's totally ok! You can skip this one if you like, or substitute it for something else. No problemo.

Cheering you on,
